Q.What are anti-wrinkle injections and where can they be used?
A.Facial injections such as Botox® , Azzalure and Bocouture are purified proteins adapted from botulinum toxin type-A. They block muscular nerve signals to temporarily weaken the muscle preventing it from contracting. This softens lines dynamic lines and can diminish unwanted facial wrinkles improving the signs of ageing. These treatments are prescription procedures performed only after a thorough consultation process. Dr. Shah understands the action of different toxins and will advise or give options according to your needs during the consultation process. Q.What areas can be treated with anti-wrinkle injections?
A.Anti-wrinkle injections are commonly used for treatment of the forehead, frown and around the eyes to give a refreshed look but maintaining a subtle youthful appearance without looking ‘overdone’. They can also be used off licence to treat bunny lines ,wrinkles around the lips as well as dimpled chins, gummy smiles, downwards turned mouths, a square jaw shape and prominent platysmal bands of the neck. All treatments are subject to a full consultation. This treatment is a prescription procedure performed only after a thorough consultation process. Q. Are anti-wrinkle injections painful?
A. These are are a relatively easy and pain-free treatment. However, if you are sensitive we can use a topical anaesthetic cream, although in most cases this is not necessary.
Q.How long does the procedure take?
A.The actual procedure takes approximately 5-10 minutes and involves a few tiny injections into the areas of concern.
Q. Do I need to take any precautions after treatment?
A. You are able to return to your normal daily routine immediately without the need for a lengthy recovery period. You will be advised to refrain from exercise for 24 hours and avoid any beauty products on the day. You will also be asked to avoid any facial treatments, steam rooms and saunas for a period of 2 weeks until the product settles in.
Q. How long does the treatment take to have effect?
A.The treated lines on your face will begin to soften over a 3-5 day period following the procedure and their appearance will further improve over the next 2-4 weeks. You will be reviewed during this period and if any extra toxin is required according to your muscle pattern this will be provided. Your new, fresher appearance and feel will stay with you for 3-6 months. Every result is different depending on how quickly your body breaks down the toxin, at which point treatment is easily repeated. If the treatment is started on a regular basis from the age of approximately 30 years of age it can help prevent static ageing lines from forming.
Q. Are there any side effects or complications:
A.Like all medicines Botulinum toxin can cause side effects. The fact that the body breaks down botulinum toxin completely means that this is an extremely safe procedure with no permanently lasting effects. You may find that there can be some slight discomfort as the needle enters the skin and you may have some bruising or bleeding where the needle has been placed. Very rarely, Botulinum toxin may result in muscle weakness. All other rare, although possible side effects can be found within the patient information leaflet which comes with the product.
